President of NCDM Prof. Dr. Bishal Nath Upreti has received Australia Awards for his efforts on earthquake disaster risk reduction through scientific study and awareness-building

Today,  commemorates National Earthquake Safety Day to raise awareness of safety precautions and disaster preparedness and to remember the devastating earthquake of 1934 and all others that have followed it.

On this day, we recognise #AustraliaAwards alum Prof. Bishal Nath Upreti, for his efforts on earthquake disaster risk reduction through scientific study and awareness-building. Prof. Upreti, a geologist by training, played a crucial role in helping Nepal recover from the 2015 earthquake.

Given that Nepal is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries, Prof Upreti says, “the country needs to be adequately prepared for earthquakes, particularly by building an Early Warning System to save lives.”
