Brief profile of Dr. Raju Thapa

General Secretary, NCDM

Dr. Raju Thapa is a practitioner lawyer with wide-ranging academic degrees and experiences in different areas such as disaster management, conflict management and human rights. He holds a PhD degree in Inclusive Disaster Management, and has a triple master’s degree in i) Peace, Conflict and Development Studies ii) Political Science and iii) human rights in duties education. He has served as a research fellow in Tribhuvan University, CINAS. He is also an Alumnus of Queensland University of Technology in inclusive disaster management. Dr. Thapa is an awardee of Australia Awards in 2018.

Dr. Thapa has wide experience in various areas including human rights and disaster management. He has successfully demonstrated his leadership capacity working as i) Coordinator of ‘Sphere Coordination Committee ii) General Secretary of DPNet Nepal, iii) Executive Member of Human Rights Without Frontiers, International (Belgium), iv) Chairperson of Human Rights Without Frontiers, Nepal and v) Executive Member of Human Rights Home. He is also a Founder and Board of Directors of Institute of Crisis Management Studies (Tribhuvan University affiliated Master’s Degree Program in Crisis Management).

Dr. Thapa is currently the General Secretary of NCDM. He has working experience with UNDP, USAID, Grand Challenge Canada, VSO, Save The Children, Practical Action funded projects and others. He has also published some books and papers in peer review international journals.
